The last two chrysalides hatched today and we now have five butterflies.They are feeding on sugared water and bananas. 3rd April 2008 This morning three of the chrysalides had turned a dark colour. You could see their wings through the chrysalis case.

The last two chryalides hatched today and we now have 5 butterfies.
They are drinking sugared water and the juice from a banana.

This morning three of the chrysalides had turned a dark colour. You could see their wings through the chrysalis case.
This afternoon they hatched into beautiful Painted Lady Butterflies! It only took a few seconds and they then climbed to the top of the net to let their wings dry.
We still have 2 chrysalides waiting to hatch.
2nd April 2008 It's great to see that you are keeping an eye on the butterflies. We still have five chrysalides and it does not look like they are ready for emerging just yet. They have been put into the butterfly net ready for when they do hatch. 23rd March 2008 Happy Easter! The last caterpillar turned into a chrysalis yesterday. We now have to wait 10 -14 days until they emerge as buterflies. 22nd March 2008 We now have 4 caterpillers that have shed their skin and are chrysalides. The lazy last one is hanging in a 'J' shape and should, fingers crossed, turn today. Keep watching! 21st March 2008
Four out of the five caterpillars have made the 'J' shape and are hanging from the top of the lid.
One of them shed it's skin last night and is now a chrysalis!
