Music

Through music, pupils can experience a sense of individual and collective achievement and enjoyment, whatever their level of ability. Music also plays an important part in delivering the aesthetic element of a broad, balanced curriculum and plays an important part in religious ethos of the school.

Children will compose and perform music with both tuned and untuned percussion instruments. They will develop an understanding of musical notation and learn to sing in a variety of forms.

Musical appreciation involves the children in listening to their own music and that of other children. They will listen to the works of composers from around the world.

All children in Key Stage 2 are encouraged to learn to play the recorder and/or guitar in our lunchtime music clubs. Children are also encouraged to join the school choir. Mr R Longden, a very able and enthusiastic peripatetic teacher, gives weekly violin and brass lessons. The children can rent suitable instruments and these lessons are subject to extra cost to parents of approximately £35 per term (£105 per year).
