HOME-START - Supporting Families

Home-Start Sheffield is a charity supporting families who have at least one child under the age of 5, helping them through stressful and difficult times.  Volunteers visit a Home-Start family in their own home, offering informal, friendly and non-judgmental support, for 2-3 hours each week.  Home-Start volunteers may offer: time for listening and talking; help with the children; an extra pair of hands to get out and about; reassurance; support to access local services; and friendship.

We are currently looking for volunteers to support families in your area.  If you would be interested in becoming a Home-Start volunteer, please contact Sarah Knightley on 2788377.  The next Volunteer Preparation course begins on 1st March and will be based in Hillsborough.  The course runs for 1 day each week for 9 weeks, and is OCN accredited at Level 2.

(In the Sheffield area, Home-Start can also take Self-Referrals from families who have a child with physical or learning disability.  If you know of a family in need of extra support, please do contact Sarah Knightly on 2788377 for further information)
